cleanliness of bathroom could be better, mattress could be better quality.
Serious mould in the bathroom. Very dated. Not enough staff. Peeling Wallpaper. In need of TLC.
great location if flying.
Staff were welcoming and professional and as always the location is great for the A1 and for Stockton/Darlington and NE.
Bar meals and breakfast. Spacious rooms The hotel could do with refurbishment; its looking a little worn at the edges.
We particularly liked the friendliness and thoughtfullness of the staff and the room was spacious, clean and comfortable.
No air con in rooms. Terribly hot. A fan was provided, but was not good enough. I cant begin to think how hot it would have been in high summer. On that point, I certainly would not recomend this hotel during the summer months
Restaurant food was excellent. Staff very helpfull Happy Hour in the bar 5-7pm
nothing rundown, poor &worn out decoration, old fashioned, very poor and expensive food,
Its location was the main reason we chose to stay there! We could walk to our meeting. The clock on the Market chiming every 15 minutes, day and night!
i was in a room which must have been over the kitchens as fro 6am in the morning a door was being costantly opened and banged shut like a swinging door type arrangement. The same noise was there each evening when meals were being served. So not a hotel I would stay at again. Also windows were high up - they were filthy and obverlooked a flat roof and fire walk way.
Good hearty breakfast More information in advance about access to leisure facilities as I didn't see this on your website.
Very helpful, friendly staff and good, secure parking. (basement of building, roller shutter door controlled by Reception) Breakfast/menu was simple, but well prepared. A cooked breakfast would be a great addition.
Central location, friendly staff who were willing to help
The food Being placed on the third floor when I requested to be put on 1st or 2nd
friendliness of staff. very helpful No facilities for evening meal or a cooked breakfast. room did seem a bit dark, one bulb out.
Location No Food Options
Cleanliness and friendly staff and central location
Stepping into this place was like stepping into a desperate Kafkaesque novel - brightly lit lobby devoid of atmosphere, half interested man on reception, another guest in tracksuit bottoms sitting there picking his toes, a room which hadn't been decorated or cleaned since circa 1986, and no bar/dining facilities. It was grim. And to make the miserable experience truly dire, the internet date I'd arranged to meet turned out to be a right rough old boot. Lesson here - never go by appearances.
Next door to a good pub serving good meals and beer. We didn't have time to explore the whole hotel but did think that the beds needed updating as they were creaky
the staff were friendly and willing to help there was a very poor selection for breakfast and there was a smell of damp in the rooms
noise, would consider a rear room next time!
the staff were loveley and very helpfull could do with modernising especialy bathroom grout and lighting
For my business purpose the hotel was excellent. The hotel was quiet and the room very clean.
Rooms were clean and comfortable There were no bar or restaurant facilities
Its the second time have stayed here and was thoroughly happy with it...when i complained about being on 3rd floor as lift not working, was immediately given a room on ground floor
Locality and cost No
Car parking was good; Reception welcoming; Room clean and spacious; continental breakfast included in price - a nice surprise! Poor signage in the dark to the actual Lodge. Lift not working and my room was on the 3rd floor. Window in room wouldn't close - it was a very cold night. Rather uncomfortable matress - I could feel a number of the springs!
24 hour check in
Beautiful setting on the side of the River Tees. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Easy access to the surrounding countryside and nearby city of Darlington. No.
Welcomed great food n/A
Good location, good food helpful staff Poor lighting in room - difficult to read No waste bin apart from sanitary one in bathroom
Clean and nicely finished room, great bar (open fires), great food (evening meal and breakfast), good value None
Extremely dog friendly which meant a lot to our labrador. Lovely dinner in a cosy bar with log fires. Nothing was too much trouble. Bed was one of the comfiest I have ever slept on. Will defininately use again. Unfortunately we only go shooting in that part of the country once a year. Everything was great and very good value.
Excellent location, friendly feel, good service
Nice room with view on edge of River Tees. Historical interest with Roman past.Cosy fires and atmosphere in bar.Pleasant attenetive staff. Widescreen TV in room.Close to Darlington & A1.Bedroom. Good sized bedroom & bathroom. Due to no O2 phone signal they allowed me to use their phone.Bar food was good. Room far too gloomy and dark. Room noisy from creaking floorboards & footfall from guest in room above. Crumbs in tea tray. Toilet pan had not been cleaned very well. Arm on armchair broken.Hopeless mobile phone signal.(O2). Cooked Breakfast was cold and uninspiring. Bar had no crisps, nuts, snacks - run out and no new delivery for 2 days !!
location of the property, breakfast included in room price, and great meals from bar/restaurant
Great stop over for our road trip. Great rooms and good value. Beautiful location next to the Tees opposite an old Roman site and road. Good beer!
The booking process was easy, the staff at the hotel were very polite, smart and friendly. The food was very good and the room was clean and comfortable.
Nice setting, friendly, helpful staff The first room we were allocated was above The Stables pub with a large extraction fan outside the window! Also, the room itself was poky and well worn. However we asked immediately if we could change rooms and after a short time were given a 100 per cent better room in the main building on the first floor where the carpets were new and the room very clean & agreeable!
We only stayed one night and only had a light meal but our impression was very favourable - the receptionist in particular was most helpful. The absence of a lift (my wife is disabled) is a disadvantage to us considering a longer stay
the countryside was beautiful, it was set away from all city exposure, in the country. beautiful. food accessible w/o problem. very nice
The atmosphere and the all round cheerfulness of all the staff no matter what their duties were. There was nothing that we did'nt like.
Needs a bit of a revamp
Nice restaurant, pleasant surroundings, friendly staff, gym facilities Noisy guests in the adjoining room, quite small bed
The friendliness of the staff Evening meal could have been better. Quite expensive hotel so food needs to be top notch
The location I had to move rooms as it had not been cleaned. T he next room was not much better and there was no table or desk to work on. The ensuite was basic
Location was good. The room was dated and the bathroom had silicone everywhere. The leisure facilities were out of use and that was the main reason we booked the hotel in the first place. We were in a room next to the family from hell who started shouting and banging doors from 04.00am onwards! The food was very poor and expensive. I feel very let down by the hotel as did the rest of my family who also stayed there. I would have thought that when booking 5 rooms someone would have said that the leisure complex was closed.
privacy & comfort dirty carpets and no refreshements available in the morning
Although it was only a brief overnight stay and we arrived particulary late. The staff were extremely accomodating and welcoming no
All of the staff were great very pleasant and always willing to help you and make sure your stay at the hotel was perfect, they make you feel a million dollars! The spa facilities were fabulous! A large pool area also with a spearate hydrotherapy pool and about 6 treatment rooms ranging from an igloo, tropicarium, saunas steam room and heat room, ideal to relax and unwind.
Excellent hotel, staff very friend and helpful. Spa facilities marvellous. The afternoon tean brillant.Cocktails superb, bar staff willing to mix what ever you required.
This hotel was completed in Oct 2009 and you can tell - everything is brand new. Bedroom was wonderful - large and with wonderful lighting system. Hotel is set in acres of grounds. It made for an hour walk after breakfast. Never stayed in a hotel this luxurious before! Spa is wonderful. Large pool with exquisite changing rooms.
loved everything about it... wonderful luxurious hotel with professional friendly staff. Loved it!
exellent..the best hotel i have ever stayed in..will definately be going back.
I was in the hotel overnight for less than 8 hours, no time to formulate an opinion sorry, apart from the pleasant room I had..
Horrible hotel, reminded us of a care home. Dirty carpetsk/decor throughout although the bedroom was just ok. Don't stay here.
Attended a wedding reception at the hotel - quality of service for this was great as they allowed the wedding party to take photos where they wanted and gave us a free run. Beds were very comfortable and shower was fabulous! Poor standard of decoration in places - repairs outstanding, first view into my room was a patch of missing wall paper. Also room doors didn't seem very secure and didn't close behind you - had to be pulled shut. This made it difficult to justify the price which was higher than equivalent other hotels. I had to stay there as I was attending an event.
The grounds, the victorian ethos,staff
Comfortable and convenient for the town, with parking. I would have liked some info about hotel facilities in the room - however, rooms had just been refurbished so I think this will be done soon.
The staff were superb, always friendly and courteous and very helpful. We had one meal in the restaurant which was terrible. I will be forwarding a seperate complaint to your customer services regarding this meal.
Excellent quality of food in restaurant Tiny, poorly fitted room
Convenience Public rooms gloomy, Bedroom too small.Bed hard and uncomfortable.
I found the hotel to be somewhat run down. Restaurant was expensive.Nice location.
Friendly staff and an interesting setting. Room in the west wing I stayed in was looking abit tired.
Bed very uncomfortable
Friendliness of staff. Location. Quality of meals. History of building. Due to booking online, it was not possible to ensure my guests were allocated a room equal (or better) than that allocated to my wife and myself.
Plenty of space in room, good grounds for children and lovely setting. Excellent breakfast. Couldn't make the shower work. Maybe need insructions for foreigners.
Despite its description. This hotel has a large free car park. Room had recently been modernised. BAr meal excellent value for money. Bathroom was a bit small but perfectly adequate.
We stayed as part of a wedding party. The food was good, the staff were pleasant and the rooms were very clean and nicely decorated.
Staff were superb, room was nice and spacious and comfy bed. We did find some sweets and rubbish behind the dressing table and the shower room was looking a little shabby, however generally it was all very good. Room could have been cleaner.
It was a lovely quiet and relaxing environment - which was much appreciated after a hard days work.
Beautiful setting. Spacious rooms and bathroom. Authentic castle atmosphere and decorations. Good food, available all day and evening. It was the perfect setting for our family. The beds were very hard, I ended up sleeping on the sofa. I've had back surgery and a hip replacement and could not bear to lie on this hard mattress, felt like concrete. The staff said they would bring up another duvet for me to lie on but it never appeared, so I had 3 sleep-deprived nights.
This is the 2nd time at this hotel and it will not be the last. nothing
Not very much. Some staff friendly, others not. Plenty !! Offered wrong room initially. Correct room dirty, beds unmade, china unwashed, toilet non flushing, broken wardrobe door, no hairdryer, broken window stay. Countryside views were of untidy back yard where kitchen extractor unit was below our window.....hence noisy and smelly. Poorly equiped small room with no extractor fan in bathroom or shaver point or mirror light. Grouting in floor tiles breaking up. More but that's enough !!
Attentive service, good response to contact including assistance in gaining entry late at night. Shame about the misleading Amex access online that turned out not actually possible for payment - I might not have booked had I known since I rely on getting ba airmiles! Not really any, save perhaps location
Spacious, well equiped apartment. Good security and clean. At first sight I thought it would be noisy but the windows kept out all noise and the road outside was very quiet at night.
Everything - the owner, Graham, could not have been more helpful to our family. It was a proper "home from home" during a difficult time for us. Especially liked the welcome pack (including wine!)
Just lovely, much better than staying in a hotel, beautifully decorated and had lots of lovely touches including the dvds, well equipped kitchen and big hairdryer! None
The decor of the appartment was really lovely, it was clean and really well equiped, with some really nice touches such as DVD'S,books and a bottle of wine in the fridge! The bed was really comfy and it was great to feel that we could come and go as we pleased. Nothing
These were excellent serviced apartments, welcome pack when we arrived was an excellent touch!
Self catering apartment all round excellent. None
It was like home from home, extremely comfortable with all mod cons/amenities.
A lovely apartment with everything I needed for my stay was provided including Tea-towels, Loved the small touches like chillled wine in the fridge and they even had ice cubes made ready in the freezer, A great welcome pack and easy to find and a warm welcome when we arrived.
Free broadband was provided to the room. Very good to see this and wish more hotels would offer it. Service during the evening meal was not brilliant....a bit slow, but I have a feeling that the member of staff assigned to my table was in training and so this does mitigate the criticism slightly.
The hotel foyer and reception rooms are lovely. The bedroom was clean and had all the essentials but the carpet was worn near the bathroom and the basin was cracked.
we found the hotel welcoming [ warm and cosy ] we are not complaining but found the breakfast was rather hurried .too many courses on your table at once.
The staff were very nice. Both check in and check out were quick. Was nice to be taken into the lobby and given directions to the room. Room clean and nicely decorated. Fab shower. Bed very comfortable. Hairdryer with a diffuser...brilliant!! Breakfast was excellent. Room a bit on the small side but had everything needed.
we stayed at the hotel to go to a wedding , and loved it from the moment we stepped in through the door .The staff were so attentive and helpfull .My room was on the ground floor and it was stylish ,warm and spotless .The food was excellent and the wedding planners made the day very special . The only thing we found difficult was finding the way into the grounds of the hotel as it was nt very well signposted. We also found that we could have done with a few more staff on duty on the bar when it got quite busy.
The hotels decor and stylish "style" The breakfast waiter ! Grumpy and moody - not an ideal welcome !
Good food Warm white wine
Lovely room, friendly helpful staff and excellent position of hotel to Darlington shopping centre. Nothing.
After ordering room service (2 sandwiches) reception called back and said it was going to take over 1 hour. ridiculous. Also, dinner was meant to be served from 5-10pm. We got to the restaurant and were told rather rudely that it wasn't possible to fit us in at all due to a wedding taking place. Fair enough but should have mentioned this to us when we checked in.
The hotel was very comfortable and I'm glad the decor is is keeping with the age of the building. On our first night there, there was a problem getting a reservation for the restuarant Maxines and we had to eat at 6.30pm.I think they should make sure they have room for hotel guests. Also the restuarant is very, very expensive and my party considered the food was not of a particularly good quality.
Nothing We arived back at the hotel at 11.15pm only to be locked out for the night.
Breakfast was very good and the time of is service fitted in well with our plans. The bed clothes where old fashioned and the top cover was not of the standard I would expect in a hotel.
Quiet location, restaurant good value for money friendly staff with quick service No shaver socket in room, no towel rail and no mirror over dressing table. araoom layout could be better.
We found the hotel very relaxing and the resteraunt was lovely a very pleasant stay
The small sauna/steam room were a nice touch although the steam room was out of service at the time of my visit. Breakfast was good. Staff were very nice and friendly. My room was right above the fitness suite and i could hear the TV in the gym at night and early in the morning and my room was also next to the corridor fire door which was banged every time it was opened.
Nice friendly staff, room was big No sky television, the downstairs looked a bit tired and cheap
Friendliness and flexibility of staff
Staff were helpful Tatty. Bedroom poor- plugs hanging off walls, no hairdryer in room- unusual for 3 star. Not the place of a lone woman traveller. Reception staff scruffily dressed.
Staff friendly and helpful A little tired in public areas. Could do with smartening up.Gents Toilets weird?
large rooms and a good breakfast not a fan of nouveau cuisine
Ideal for my business trip - location, cost, good breakfast.
It was a quiet room and the bed was comfortable. Good breakfast, too. It's a personal thing, but I don't like fixed shower heads.
I liked that it was ajoined to a family style pub/resturant was very convenient and enjoyed it very much!
Ease of access and cleanliness.
Staff are friendly and keen to help. There was mildew around the window frame from condensation, that had been missed by the cleaner. It was cleaned when I pointed it out. They explained that they could not use the strong chemicals needed while children were staying there.
The room was lovely and the food was good Did not like pillows!!!
Booking was easy. Check in straight forward. Satellite channels on telly useful as I couldn't sleep during my stay and watched telly all night. My room was awful. The noise from above was constant. I didn't sleep all night. Thee were creaking noises and tap dripping from the bathroom, constant door opening E.T.C. I couldn 't sleep. The telly needs upgrading to newer model because that's what I had to watch throughout the night.
enjoyed breakfast every morning location
Close to where I was visiting
Comfortable bed, very very quiet location. New, spotless, well appointed bathroom. Excellent value for money. Exterior and reception area unattractive and a bit off-putting.
Friendly staff and good atmosphere, good food
It was very friendly, clean and inexpensive.
nice hotel in a very isolated position ( on the airport trading estate) excellent value and really nice people
Clean and excellent value for money
Hotel was good value for money - en-suite facilities included in rooms. Wireless internet was free.Relaxed atmosphere with proprietors mixing with guests. Wireless internet not available in room.Noise from aircraft early morning.
A nice large en-suite room, with much more space than in Premier Inn or Travelodge. Breakfast included, & bar open late. Outward appearance & area ofputting.
I needed to stay in the area due to the bad weather and the hotel offered a good, safe and convenient place to stay. I was very comfortable and warm and as a woman alone I felt welcomed and comfortable. The food was very good and they catered for my gluten free diet without fuss. I would stay there again and recommend it to my friends. I found no bad points as this hotel catered well for casual and business clients.
Comfort & value Hotel let down on 2nd morning - by breakfast manager who took no notice of us --- we did tell Tracey hotel manager - who look after us
Modern hotel;large rooms with excellent showers! Filled in customer questionnaire and were very impressed to recieve a telephone call in response within a few days and conformation that they had taken action on our comments. Air condtioning/heating controls were difficult to adjust;directions need altering to make it clear that need to take A167 to Newton Aycliffe; very close to A1M
Staff were welcoming and efficient - I asked for another pillow and it appeared 5 minutes later. I found the mattress rather too hard and a bit lumpy - husband did not feel the same! (Room 010)
power shower was fantastic and the room was very modern and comfortable - would defenately stay again
BIg beds Excellent showers - good clean hotel - just the thing for business traveler or a base for touring.
Breakfast - very good. Shower was excellent As it is a fairly new build there is no character or atmosphere
Had no problems at all, staff were polite and helpful, food was outstanding and rooms were perfect Had no problems, hotel was definitely worth the money.
power shower,reception bed springs
Excellent size family room Restrictions on pool availlability for children
The seating in the bar area & the restaurant were quite nice. The room wasn't cleaned properly, the floor boards were very creaky, having to explain 4 times to 2 members of staff that there were only 3 of us staying in 2 rooms not 4 of us!
1. The food and service was very good 2. The bar area was very comfortable 3. The general cleaness of the hotel was to a very high standard The traffic noise Bar prices were a little expensive
Phone wasn't working. I had to go down to reception if I wanted roomservice. Laundry wasn't in time, so I had to fetch it myself at the dry cleaning shop in Richmond. The bed was terrible.
Hotelstaff was friendly and helpfull It was ok for 1 night. Breakfast was ok but nothing special.
A handy drop off place en route to Scotland; could do with a much better entrance sign on that very busy round-a-bout.
The price of the Laundry. My son and his friend were walking the Pennine Way (180 miles) in aid of Cancer research and we needed to get their socks ets washed and dried. It cost me £46 for two small bags of laundry and although we should have looked at the price list at the time I and his mother had other things to think about. I thought the cost was excessive.
The hotel was welcoming, clean and warm. It was easy to find and excellent value for money. Some people smoking in the reception/bar area which i personally can't stand but i suppose it won't be a problem in the near future!
Friendly staff, excellent food, nice rooms None
