Nice location, lots of the city is walkable from here. The lobby is beautiful and the front desk staff made us feel very welcome. Once you get out of the lobby, the floors felt a bit dingy like they needed new carpets. The decor in the hallways felt a bit dated. Nothing particularly bad but just didn't feel quite polished. For the price I expected better.
I loved the front desk staff and the valet staff. Upon checking in, the front desk staff was extremely helpful with tips on activities in the area and food and restaurant choices. They didn't sound rehearsed with their suggestions. They really seemed enthusiastic about their choices which made us enthusiastic about trying them out. The valet staff was extremely friendly and helpful as well. We left some items in our car that they had parked for us and they offered to retrieve them for us while we waited in the lobby. They greeted us every time we walked in and out the door and just seemed happy to be working there and not just working for tips. The customer service was greatly appreciated! The main negative comment I have is that their elevator is rickety and loud. I guess because we checked in at night, we got stuck with the room next to the elevator and you really can hear it every time it goes up and down. Luckily, we were just so exhausted from our daytime activities, we didn't have the energy to complain. Also, the housekeeping staff was a little intimidating. At around 4pm, we went back to our hotel room to freshen up and noticed that our room had still not been made. No big deal. We saw the housekeeping staff in the hallway and decided to tell them they can skip our room, but we wanted an extra towel and a new garbage bag. When we asked them, the staff member demanded my hotel room number in a harsh tone and when I told her, she then shouted to her co worker in another language some verbiage while pointing at us. They had a conversation, that sounded like an argument to me, for a few minutes while we were standing there waiting for the OK to skip our room and give us a towel. Mind you, they were standing right next to the towel cart conversing in their language while I was standing there confused.
We've been coming to Modera over the last five years, and not much has changed in that time. It's still a nice, modern hotel, but it's certainly not as hip as it once was. That goes for downtown portland in general, however. The front lobby staff is excellent as are the housekeeping staff. They seem to understand the hospitality services industry an do everything they can to make you comfortable. Hotel Modera continues to only offer valet parking. That's good because there is very little street parking; however, it's not good when the service is overpriced and the valets don't help with getting luggage in/out of the car. In fact, there's no offering to help in any way other than to hand you the valet ticket/keys. The lobby doors are not automatic, so while the valets stand around, you are convenienced to put down your bags, open the door, prop it open with your foot while you grab your bags and make a dash through. We haven't had this problem in the past, but the HVAC in our room was not heating, just blowing cool air. Turning the unit off resulted in the windows whistling due to the negative pressure in the room. The mini fridge stocked with overpriced drinks was also not working. So our room was cold and noisy, and the fridge was warm and quiet. The front desk staff offered to send someone up right away, but since my wife was still asleep and we were checking out in several hours, I declined, but the staff was very sympathetic. The bathroom in our king room was VERY close to the bed, and the sliding door didn't make it much of a 'privy'. I try to keep up with the latest building materials, so maybe the plastic tub liner that shifts up and down under your feet while taking a shower is new and fancy. I don't think we'll be installing one in our home. The hotel's bar/restaurant is unremarkable in all ways and does not stand up to the other great food and drink options in downtown or the east side. Overall, I think we are done with this hotel considering there are so many other options in the area that are better walking distance to good food and drinks.
Windows open - - a great feature these days if you lIke a little fresh air. Wonderful staff and convenient enough location. A bit pricey, especially the valet parking.
Outdoor fire pits. Didn't work: AC, tv. 5$ for a bottle of water when the room is 200$ per night and tap water is gross seems cheap. Resturant was very expensive.
I checked into Hotel Moderna after a very long day of traveling and checking out of another hotel because if wasn't clean or at all what I was looking for. The guy behind the front desk, after hearing of my travel troubles, offered me free drinks in the hotel restaurant to make my day better. He also gave me a map of the city and marked his favorite places to hang out in sharpie. The front desk staff went above and beyond to accommodate me, which is exactly what I needed after the day I had.
Located close to downtown shopping and Keller Auditorium. Staff puts customers first. In house restaurant is fantastic. Excellent wait staff and food is great. Great outdoor patio with gas fire pits. Rooms not big, but very nice. Valet parking adds $35 per night. Would stay there again. $35 valet parking not mentioned in booking.
The resturNt downstairs was very good and the rooms are clean... Small but clean. The shower was kind of cheesy. It's great if it's just a crash pad. The Staff and valet service were all very nice The smaller rooms, shower felt cheap with crappy water pressure.
The restaurant and friendly staff. In downtown Portland, but a bit far from certain attractions.
Location close to stores and downtown area Room was small. Bathroom was small. Bed was extremely loud and squeaky. Walls were thin
The location and comfort made our trip an enjoyable first visit. Restaurant and accessibility from the interstate made it a stress free arrival, check in, check out... I don't know that we will stay at Modera for the price paid, again. Not a knock it is a gorgeous and friendly hotel. Great for a first visit.
Always enjoy the staff, the contemporary atmosphere, the location, and the garden with fire pits. This is my favorite place to stay in Portland for a reasonable price (the nines is great but expensive, and the loft is great but more for an airport stay). The valet parking was pretty good and free for my Prius (they had a special for "green" cars) and really helped to steal my stay (the nines did not offer anything like that). If there was anythInfo@VertebrataChiropractic.com I had a problem with, it was that once waited for 15 minutes for my car and when I asked about it, the valet had forgotten about it. He immediately remedied the situation and had the car in 90 seconds, but it would have been nice to have gotten it when it was first asked for. A small oversight, and overall does not take from my five star rating for this property.

Great location, very friendly helpful staff, comfortable bed, lots of natural light, hotel restaurant had good happy hour and great food Room did not have closet or iron. Was surprised that for the price we paid, there was nowhere to hang nicer clothes.
Location, view, staff
Having good quality, well maintained (free) bikes available was a plus especially since Portland is such a bike friendly city. Happy hour reception in lobby, happy hour in bar, the staff, so many wonderful things about this hotel! We loved it!! Free coffee was provided in lobby was taken away at 9 am. As travelers sometimes we like to sleep in or would like an occasional late morning coffee, but they did accommodate in restaurant so how can we complain?
Location and size of the rooms. Management during the day did everything to accommodate. Gave me giant rooms. Free wine. The view was amazing. No room service after 11pm. Night shift not the most educated or friendly.
The location on the water front is potentially nice. (1) Took well over 1 hour to check in at 2;30PM -- no rooms available! (2) Noisy. Lots of ambient street noise
We were able to walk or catch the trolley and go anywhere we wanted. It is quite central so we could see lots of attractions Great place
they brought a mini-fridge on request. lots of plugs for charging. Nice location, close to waterfront park and quieter than mid town locations.
The view was beautiful. Very nice employees.
very walkable, close to theater and parks, walk to the river, I like a firmer bed but no one else in the party had bed issues
Location is great, facility is amazing, and staff was exceptional! Bed was a little firm but still got a good nights rest.
Conveniently located for visit to family members and close to desired activities, as well as ease of public transportation. Little selection for continental breakfast and few options for breakfast close by during weekend visit.
The employees were friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Great location! Food carts across the street. Cheap bread and cheap muffins for breakfast. When we pulled the sheets back to get into bed, they had food and short, curly hairs on the sheets.
Location was walking distance from Portland Art Museum, Powell's and Keller Auditorium. Bed was uncomfortable the first night.
Room was desent i was not aware that the dormitory area is for 30 and under. I do not think that's fair. This crucial bit of information was not availiable online unless you lol for it. So I was forced to get a more expensive hotel.
The AAE Portland Downtown Value Inn is clean, comfortable and located on the Portland Streetcar line adjacent to Portland State University. Nothing fancy, just great value.
Great location, cheap rates, free parking + internet. Room was poorly lit and a bit noisy due to what sounded like an air compressor on the downstairs floor.
I liked the location which is really good one (near the street car, metro and PSU) The cleaning of the rooms isn't up to standards as there are many times where not fully cleaned due staff availability. Also the bed cover wasn't truly clean!!
The place was run-down - old, creaky, smelly, and institutional - like a jail. The TV buttons did not work. I am not picky about decor, but the concrete painted walls and worn old carpeting were downright unpleasant. Better to stay at the Motel 6 just across the river for even cheaper (which we did after cancelling the 2nd night's stay upon arrival) and much less decrepit.
It is right next to two streetcar lines. Easy walking distance to everything. Plus Portland is great! The hallways had a musty odor.
the room was big the noise of the bath room
Within walking distance of downtown and nicely located close to the University. The Max stop is right at the hotel. A little rundown, strong odour in the reception area, heating was not great.
